The Beginning

Shanti was founded by artist and traveler Pam Whitworth in 1997 when she traveled to Nepal and agreed to sponsor one small boy’s education. That was the start of a relationship with little Punya, with a school in Kathmandu and the realization that poor children need help to be able to go to school. From that small beginning, Shanti Children’s Foundation grew, until today as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 charity Shanti sends one hundred disadvantaged kids to school in the Kathmandu valley of Nepal.

Our children

Most of our children come from remote areas where there is either no school or one of extremely poor quality and unreliable stability. Poverty is still the daily reality in Nepal, so without support these children would have no opportunity to obtain the education that will make it probable for them to lead a better, more optimistic, self sufficient life.

Rays of Light

For almost twenty five years we have been educating needy children in Nepal through individual sponsorships. At a time when there is so much bad news in our world, these children are a ray of light. For a small investment annually, you can bring hope into their lives and the possibility of a brighter future. Education will give them tools as they step into the modern world. It will also help keep them safe from trafficking and other forms of abuse. Over time, increased literacy will also help lay the groundwork for a more stable Nepal.
