Nepal: Beauty and Challenge

Nepal is a country of spectacular beauty. Home of the Himalaya and Mount Everest.

It is also one of the least developed countries in the world. Roughly 75% of the country is covered in rugged mountain terrain. The majority of the population live in rural villages, while one quarter live below the poverty line. There is political instability and the traditional culture of the past is giving way to modern influences at lightning speed. Education is vital to manage the challenges of the world that is emerging for the young. They need our support as never before and Shanti continues to provide educational sponsorships for the poor and disadvantaged.

In April 2015 a devastating earthquake rocked the county. Shanti was on the ground providing assistance wherever and however it could. In 2017 and 2019 massive flooding and landslides created great suffering. The Covid 19 pandemic is another huge challenge for our kids and the people of Nepal. We are deeply committed to our students and when needed, to their families and to the schools we work with.
