One Child: An Outpouring of Compassion

Esha is a little girl in Nepal who has had a hard life. She needed support to be able to attend school and have a safe, secure place in the school hostel. She generated an avalanche of love and compassion.

Esha is a little girl in Nepal who has had a hard life. She needed support to be able to attend school and have a safe, secure place in the school hostel. She generated an avalanche of love and compassion.

The morning after I sent out a message looking for a sponsor for Esha, I opened my email to find my inbox literally overflowing with responses to her story. My first thought was “Oh no!..they all want to sponsor her! What do I do now?”  I never expected such an outpouring of generosity. But as the day wore on and I emailed back and forth or conversed by phone with so many people, I was moved and amazed by the floodgate of compassion that had opened.

By day’s end friends had stepped up to commit to sponsorship for TEN new kids! Once the hearts opened, they were ready to help whoever was in need. That caring and flexibility moved me deeply. After sorting out with each person who they would sponsor and providing details to them, I went to bed at midnight after a very long day filled with joy and admiration.

This is a part of my job that I love: getting to engage with people in the flow of all that is sterling in human nature: generosity, kindness, compassion, and love. It affirms that we CAN help balance the inequality in the world and that it comes about through connection, heart to heart.
